Abstract

For about 10 years now, criminality has stabilized at a rate varying between 3 and 4 million recorded events per year. Over a period of 50 years, the number of crimes recorded in France has been multiplied by 7. This phenomenon is more marked in urban areas, but no country area is spared. Far from resulting in a "pacification of morals", the transition from the old century to the new one has shown an increase in offences of intentional bodily injury against others. The percentage of acts of delinquency committed by juveniles is increasing. Today prevention of criminality has become one of the priorities in public policy.
