Abstract

An Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Recommended Practice, "Traditional Neighborhood Development Street Design Guidelines," has been published. Eleven "principles" represent valid concepts, while nine are questionable (such as elimination of functional classification; narrow, congested streets; encouraging on-street parking; and alley access garages). These issues are addressed and pedestrian accident data are given.
