Abstract

Nurses in hospital and nonhospital settings have long played a role in disaster management. The history of nursing is partially a response to needs created by wars. It is appropriate that nursing, particularly emergency nursing, recognize that active involvement in community disaster planning is both an opportunity and an obligation.
