Abstract

In 1982 a sexual assault centre was established in Central Auckland. Its history, philosophy and structure are described. Services to sexual assault victims are outlined. Of particular interest is the Sexual Abuse Team, comprising a triad of specifically trained staff from the Police, Department of Social Welfare and the Sexual Abuse Centre. The Auckland Centre has served as a prototype for centres in other regions of New Zealand.
