Abstract

An overview of the principles, risks, and benefits, and proper usage of restraints is presented in reference to both the pregnant woman and the newborn. Also, the types and advantages of each restraint are reviewed. Finally, aspects of the nurse's role in the education of new parents during the pre- and postnatal periods are discussed. In this discussion, specific suggestions are given to meet the overall goal of safer auto travel for the pregnant woman and newborn.
