Abstract

In order to prevent abusive episodes and abusive behaviour from occurring it is important that society, in particular the health and social care sector, identify the individuals who may be at the greatest risk of abuse and those who are or may become abusers. This article attempts to define such behaviour and illustrate some of the reasons as to why particular groups are the targets of abuse and why particular individuals abuse.
