N2  - Designing for pedestrian road crossing safety is a complex process. Some of the issues to beconsidered are the design and engineering of the immediate crossing points and surrounding area, the characteristics of the pedestrians, and contextual issues such as the political and legal environments. This annotated bibliography presents resources covering those areas and includes specific topics such as traffic and pedestrian signals, geometric features that enhance pedestrian safety, traffic calming through environmental design, aids for the disabled, overcrossings and undercrossings, the effect of various planning philosophies on pedestrian safety, and U.S. state and federal programs currently in use.<p />
