TY - JOUR PY - 2007// TI - Modeling and Analysis of a Lightning Accident in Gävle, Sweden JO - Journal of lightning research A1 - Roman, F A1 - Alarcon, A A1 - Santamaria, F SP - 51 EP - 59 VL - 1 IS - N2 - A lightning accident in a soccer field which occurred in the city of Gävle, Sweden in 1994, is described in this paper. The victim was a 16 years old girl, who at the moment of the accident was the goalkeeper in a soccer team. The victim was hardly injured by a direct lightning impact. The electrogeometric method was applied to show why the victim was attached by lightning. The LLP system data showed a 16 kA lightning flash without subsequent strokes. However, the soccer shoes showed three holes as evidence of three current paths. Three holes were also found on the earth surface, a clear evidence of the lightning current paths. The victim could be affected by two possible lightning events: 1- A lightning flash with one component and three different current paths to ground or 2- A lightning flash with three subsequent strokes. A human electrical body model was used to study both mentioned possible events. Results show that in a victim, a single lightning-current can be split into, at least, two different current paths.
