TY - JOUR PY - 1993// TI - Radiation therapy for advanced gastric carcinoma. An analysis of 52 cases JO - Chinese Journal of Clinical Oncology A1 - Shu-Zhen, J. SP - 860 EP - 863 VL - 20 IS - 11 N2 - From June 1979 to June 1985, 52 patients with advanced gastric carcinoma were treated with radiation using two fields portals, crossfiring through the epigastric region. The field size varied from 8 x 10cm to 10 x 15cm reaching a total of 3500-5000cGy. The 1-, 2-, and 3-year survival rates were 69.2%, 63.4%, and 55.7% respectively. Twenty-six patients died during the follow-up period: 20 died of liver and peritoneum metastasis; one each died of suicide, tumor relapse, liver rupture, intercurrent rectal cancer, and cerebral embolism; one lost to follow-up. The author pointed out that early use of radiotherapy for advanced gastric carcinoma would improve the overall survival rate, and that the fields should be large enough to include the porta hepatis.
