TY - JOUR PY - 1992// TI - Definition of a severity score for the management of emergency calls for suicidal attempts with drugs JO - Journal Européen des Urgences A1 - Leveau, P. A1 - Normand, R. SP - 193 EP - 197 VL - 5 IS - 4 N2 - Emergency calls for suicidal attempts with drugs (SAD) are frequent and require an appropriate medical response, expecially during the pre-hospital phase. Indeed, most of these SAD does not need to send a mobile intensive care unit (MICU) with a physician. During a retrospective study (a 2-year period), 337 emergency calls for SAD were analysed and a severity score was built, including simple epidemiological (5 items), toxicological (5 items), and clinical (4 items) data. To calculate this score required only 2 min, and a score > 9 was considered to indicate the need for a MICU. During a prospective study (1-year period), the efficacy of this score was assessed. Its sensivity was 0.95, its specificity 0.89, the negative predictive value was 0.99. Therefore, it was concluded that this simple score could be used to improve the efficiency of the pre-hospital management of SAD.
