TY - JOUR PY - 1992// TI - Recurrent brief psychiatric syndromes of depression, hypomania, neurasthenia, and anxiety from an epidemiological point of view JO - Neurology psychiatry and brain research A1 - Angst, J. SP - 5 EP - 12 VL - 1 IS - 1 N2 - Recurrent brief psychiatric syndromes consist of operationally defined syndromes based on depression, anxiety, hypomania, and fatigue (neurasthenia), with an average length of 1-3 days and frequent reoccurrence (at least monthly over 1 year). They have a high prevalence, are frequently treated, and can be validated by a positive family history, by a lifetime history of suicide attempts, by social impairment, and by association with other psychiatric syndromes. They are frequently overlooked and neglected. The currently used diagnostic systems (DSM-III-R and ICD-9) do not yet include these psychiatric syndromes. Recurrent brief depression is a category of ICD-10 (F 38.10).
