N2  - Charting the scope and breadth of a specific field of study is a worthwhile and informative academic endeavor. Although the body of scholarly research on the topic of boredom is rather voluminous, few bibliometric studies have appeared in the literature. Based on a content analysis, Piotrowski (2013) presented an historical perspective on the major subject areas of study specific to the topic of boredom. The purpose of the current study is to determine the major research topics that garner research attention on boredom reported in the scholarly literature in recent years. To that end, a bibliometric analysis of recent (2014-2021) peer-reviewed articles (N=366) in the database PsycINFO was performed based on a keyword search using the term boredom. A content analysis was conducted, based on a review of all articles. The most emphasized domains under investigation were: Theory/Model, K-12 education, Smartphones/Social Media, Motivation, Measures/Scales, Emotion, Typology/Construct issues, CNS physiology, and Cognitive control/processes. Interestingly, several topics attracted scant research attention, i.e., burnout, cultural factors, suicide, sleep, nicotine dependence, domestic abuse, time management, and research on elderly samples.
