TY - JOUR PY - 2002// TI - Experimental Study on the Sensitivity and Nuisance Immunity of Smoke Detectors JO - Journal of applied fire science A1 - Xie, Qian A1 - Yuan, H. A1 - Su, G A1 - Zhang, Yunlong SP - 323 EP - 334 VL - 11 IS - 4 N2 - The objective of this work is to experimentally evaluate photoelectric and ionization smoke detectors with both the real fire scenario and nuisance alarm sources. This work is accomplished through a series of experiments in the Fire Emulator/Detector Evaluator (FE/DE), The results indicate that the sensitivity of smoke fire detectors is closely related to the characteristics of the smoke around them. The results also show that the scattering photoelectric smoke detector is much more sensitive to the simulated dust and the nuisance alarm would occur more easily. For the steam, the photoelectric detector would give a false alarm more easily in the cold winter than in the hot summer.
