TY - JOUR PY - 2020// TI - Suicide in Uruguay: View in territorial perspective JO - Revista Mexicana de Sociología A1 - Fonseca, A.L.P. A1 - González, V.H. A1 - Picó, P.H. SP - 311 EP - 341 VL - 82 IS - 2 N2 - This article looks to understand the configuration of the suicidal act in Uruguay from the territorial perspective, considering social and subjective dimensions. The Department of Rocha was selected as study case, with historical high suicide rates. Both qualitative (ethnography) and quantitative (suicide statistics, period 1963-2014) approaches were combined. The territorial analysis allowed to determine the existence of areas where there is a greater concentration of suicide rates, which in turn coincides with the greater territorial inequalities of the country. A situation that has aggravated with the neoliberal measures of the nineties, which produced deep social fragmentations and an increased regional and national suicide rates. © 2020 Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México-Instituto de Investigaciones Sociales.
