SP - 305 EP - 321 VL - 14 IS - 1 N2 - This study sought to collect sociodemographic profiles in suicides and attempted suicides occurred in the municipalities of Anastácio and Aquidauana, Mato Grosso do Sul State, from 2007 to 2016. Therefore, it was used as data source the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) for census data collection about resident population; the SUS Data-Processing Department (DATASUS) to collect national and state suicide data; the Regional Unity of Expertise and Identification - URPI/Civil Police for suicide occurrence in Aquidauana and Anastácio; the Epidemiological Monitoring Agencies in Aquidauana and Anastácio to collect suicide attempts data; 1st Military Firefighter Subcommand of Aquidauana to collect data of suicide attempts in Aquidauana and Anastácio. It was observed underreporting issues and the lack of standardization when recording suicide attempts. Regarding to the occurrences, it can be concluded that children and adolescents use hanging as the main method of taking their own lives. © 2020, Universidade Federal de Goias. All rights reserved.
