N2  - This investigation aimed to estimate the prevalence and its correlates of single and multiple suicide attempts among adolescents in Jamaica. Cross-sectional nationally representative data were analysed from 1,667 adolescents (with a median age of 15 years) that participated in the "2017 Jamaica Global School-Based Student Health Survey (GSHS)." The results indicate that 17.9% of the students had made a suicide attempt in the past 12 months (8.8% single suicide attempts and 9.1% multiple suicide attempts). In adjusted multinomial logistic regression analysis, female sex, rarely or sometimes experiencing hunger, bullying victimization, anxiety, loneliness, having no close friends, current and parental tobacco use, and frequent soft drink intake were associated with multiple suicide attempts in the past 12 months. In addition, had a serious injury and had been in a physical fight were associated with single suicide attempts. Almost one in ten students had made a single and multiple suicide attempts in the past 12 months, and several associated variables were detected that can be used to aid in designing intervention strategies. © Nova Science Publishers, Inc.<p /> <p>Language: en</p>
