TY - JOUR PY - 2020// TI - Prevalence and correlates of being physically attacked among in-school adolescents in Myanmar: Results from a national cross-sectional survey in 2016 JO - International journal on disability and human development IJDHD A1 - Peltzer, K. A1 - Pengpid, S. SP - 651 EP - 657 VL - 19 IS - 4 N2 - This investigation aimed to report the prevalence and its correlates of physical attacks among adolescents in Myanmar. Cross-sectional nationally representative data were analysed from 2,838 adolescents (14 years median age) that participated in the "2016 Myanmar Global School-Based Student Health Survey (GSHS)." Results indicate that 33.4% of students reported having been physically attacked (past 12 months), 40.0% among males and 27.3% among females). In adjusted logistic regression analysis, younger age, male sex, bullied, injury, experience of hunger (or lower economic status) and school truancy were associated with having been physically attacked (past 12 months). In addition, in unadjusted analysis, current alcohol use, soft drink consumption, sedentary behaviour, lack of parental support and psychological distress were associated with physical attack. One in three students had been physically attacked, and several associated variables were detected which can aid in designing intervention strategies. © Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
