N2 - INTRODUCTION: The theory of emotional intelligence emphasizes the participation of emotions in the intelligent solution of the tasks set by life, and advocates the inclusion of programs for the development of this intelligence in educational and health systems.
OBJECTIVE: Describe the application of the emotional training experience in adolescents with suicide attempts.
METHODS: Descriptive, longitudinal study, from January 2016 to May 2017, with a group of 14 adolescents, aged between 12 and 15 years, who have been referred to the Mental Health Center in Playa Municipality, from different hospitals in Havana, where they required special care due to suicide attempt, diagnosed as behavior and emotional disorders.
RESULTS: It was observed a positive evolution of the adolescents under attention, showing a significant reduction in the symptoms that required specialized attention, with an important decrease in the use of psychoactive drugs, and the development of emotional capacities that function as protector factors.
CONCLUSIONS: The workshop used achieves a reduction of symptoms in patients with suicidal behavior, and it is one more tool to be used with these adolescents. © 2020. All Rights Reserved.
