SP - 256 EP - 263 VL - 19 IS - 3 N2 - OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to compare cognitive functions, hopelessness and insight in schizophrenia patients with and without suicide attempt and determine the predictive factors for suicide attempt.

METHODS: Fifty patients with DSM-IV diagnosis of schizophrenia were enrolled prospectively to the study, were categorized based on patient and interviewers as suicide attempters and non-suicide attempters. These groups were compared about depression, positive/negative symptoms, insight, hopelessness and cognitive functions.

RESULTS: In group suicide attempters' suicide ideation, hopelessness, insight and depression were higher than non-suicide attempters. Neuro-psychological performance was better in patients with suicide attempt. Stroop test times were better, WCST perse-verative responses, errors were better in patients with suicide attempt.

CONCLUSION: According to our results pa-tients with suicide attempt executive functions are better than patients without suicide attempt. © 2018, Cukurova University, Faculty of Medicine. All rights reserved.
