N2 - INTRODUCTION: Suicide accounts for 0.4 to 0.9% of total deaths in the world and is the third leading cause of death among teenagers. Produce information that collaborate on strategies to bring down the mortality of the population through the reduction of suicide rates in Brazil is important and necessary.
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to delineate the epidemiological profile of death by suicide in the state of Acre.
METHODology: A retrospective, cross-sectional and descriptive, which was conducted through weekly visits to the reports of cadaveric files IML Acre. Programs, and Excel software Stastistical Package for Social Sciences - SPSS, were used for data analysis.
RESULTS and discussion: 148 suicides were recorded in the IML Acre between 2008 and 2012. The average ratio was 4.3 / 100,000. With suicide rates higher among men (87.5%), single (47%) and young people. Suicide by hanging accounted for 75% of cases among men and 72% among women.
CONCLUSIONS: This study shows that suicide mortality is low in Acre for the total population. And the epidemiological profile of suicide stroke should begin to integrate the planning of preventive actions. © 2016 Editora Cientifica Nacional Ltda. All rights reserved.
