A1 - Patel, G.R. SP - 142 EP - 144 VL - 113 IS - 11 N2 - A retrospective study of patients of burns admitted in the New Civil Hospital of Surat during 2008-2009 was done and data gathered. Out of 768 total adult burn patients, 437 (56.9) were males and 331 (43.1) were females; the etiological factors, social elements, occupation of patients and pattern of injury were studied. Single male migrants from other parts of country for earnings, lived in high-density in the industrial area of the city with poor hygiene, sanitation and living standards with poor safety leads to high incidence of household (57.9%) and industrial accidents (42.1%) resulting into burns injury out of other injuries dominantly affecting males rather than females. © 2015, Indian Medical Association.
