TY - JOUR PY - 2007// TI - Experience with suicidal behaviour in psychiatric hospital care - Comparison of three in-patient groups in an university hospital in northern Germany from 1980 to 1998 JO - Nervenheilkunde A1 - Hohl-Radke, F. A1 - Staedt, J. A1 - Arentewicz, G. SP - 67 EP - 73 VL - 26 IS - 1-2 N2 - Compared to normal population, the risk for suicidal behaviour is much higher in psychiatric inpatients. The aim of the study was to find predictors for suicidal behaviour. Another question concerned the existence of any differences between patients with suicidal attempts, suicides and those without any suicidal behaviour. For this purpose 78 patients were included to the study, who were in-patients of a psychiatric hospital in Northern Germany in the years 1980 to 1998. Each of them belonged to one of the above mentioned groups. Data were compared according to the "Drillingsmethode". According to our results severe depressive symptoms, former suicidal attempts, bad events in childhood, a long duration of illness, comorbidities and complications in the course of disease-treatment were typical not only for the group of suicide attempters but also for the group with suicides. As for the suicide attempters a more negative prognosis by clinicians could be revealed compared to those with suicides. © 2007 Schattauer GmbH.
