SP - EP - VL - 35 IS - 1 N2 - A prospective research of l78 patients who committed suicide attempt from July 1996 to July 1998, and who were admitted in the Psychiatry Service of "Carlos J. Finlay" Central Military Hospital was conducted. There was a predominance of the age group 18-20, of students of junior high school, and of single individuals with a background of suicide attempts and a family history of psychiatric disorders. The main inducing conflict was associated with the adaptation to the new stressing environment. According to the National Program of Suicide Prevention, suicide attempt was qualified as lethal, low, and unserious. © 2006 1999, Editorial Ciencias Médicas.
