N2  - It was proceeded to a revision of the literature on the epidemiology of the suicide in the period from 1993 to 1997. Through the systems PsycLIT, MEDILINE and Lilacs, were selected and acquired 37 articles and classified in five groups: 1. demographic characteristics (10 articles); 2. psychological and social factors (12 articles); 3. used method (13 articles); 4. association with mental upset (three articles) and 5. it supports of the services of health (three articles). Several articles for they investigate influences of multiple factors they were included in more than a category. The critical analysis of the articles evidences a strong association among suicide and the aspects discussed in the studies and this could contribute to the development of preventive strategies.<p /> <p>Language: en</p>
