TY - JOUR PY - 1999// TI - Suicidal ideation amongst functionally ill psychogeriatric inpatients JO - International journal of psychiatry in clinical practice A1 - Bell, P. A1 - Shah, A. SP - 253 EP - 256 VL - 3 IS - 4 N2 - OBJECT: Fluctuating suicidal ideation can undermine the accuracy of suicide risk assessment.

METHOD: This pilot study examined fluctuations in suicidal ideation among psychogeriatric inpatients as reported by nurses, doctors and the patients themselves. The relationship between these reports of suicidal ideation is also examined.

RESULTS: Five (38%) patients exhibited fluctuations in suicidal ideation. Doctors reported greater suicidal ideation than did the nurses and patients.

CONCLUSION: Clinical implications of this discrepancy and fluctuations in suicidal ideation are discussed.
