TY - JOUR PY - 1998// TI - Current scenario of poisoning in rural India JO - Journal of forensic medicine and toxicology A1 - Sharma, S.K. SP - 89 EP - 94 VL - 15 IS - 1 N2 - The paper reports the current profile of poisoning cases vis-a-vis consumption of pesticides in various states. Reporting of the poisoning cases inadequate. Number of studies have been published indicating sharp rise in poisoning due to Aluminium Phosphide. Andhra Pradesh is the biggest consumer of Pesticides and in an unerring recurrence deaths due to poisoning have been found to weave patterns. Facilities for analytical toxicology in most of the states is scarce and reports are given after a long time. Clinicians handling poisoning cases for treatment fear legal scrutiny. Poisoning is of the concern to almost everybody in the society including district and the state administration. The desire for being treated as non medicolegal case is rampant. Diagnosis of poisoning in Gr. II and IV is not as easy as it appears. It eludes even an expert eye. Problem arises when history is deceptive or the poisoning presents as disease.
