The presentation by Dr J. Mann is discussed, who underlined how the respect of human rights is a requirement to effectively deal with problems such as AIDS One may say that human rights are to public health what classical medical ethics is to the individual doctor-patient relationship. Working for change in the life environment, in the sense of social and economic justice, is an integral part of public health action.
