SP - 719 EP - 722 VL - 39 IS - 10 N2 - We report the case of a woman who came to the emergency room with mild gastrointestinal complaints after the intentional ingestion of hydrogen peroxide. At admission, the presence of air in the portal vein was detected by plain radiography, ultrasound and CT, the latter of which also disclosed a thickening of the gastric wall and the presence of air in the interior. The literature dealing with hydrogen peroxide poisoning is reviewed, including its effects on the organism and mechanism of action. Other causes of air in portal vein are also discussed.
