N2  - This essay focuses on the verse of Inf. xiii 35, where the variant gridar is proposed instead of dir, which is oicially recognised, in the last century, by Vandelli and Petrocchi. Conirmed by numerous manuscripts, 'inside' and 'outside the antica vulgata', this variant is also conirmed by past and modern commentators as well as by relevant annotations of the 16th century. Thus, the unlikelihood of the lectio diicilior is proved, based on compelling textual and thematic evidence, since the variant in question depends on the iterative verb ricominciò , whose presence is fully in line with the previous situation, i.e. the words Perché mi schiante ? yelled in v. 33 by the famous suicide.<p /> <p>Language: en</p>
