SP - 52 EP - 65 VL - 69 IS - 3 N2 - This study, of quantitative nature, had as main objective analyze the role of attachment to parents and social skills in the development of suicidal ideation in adolescents. The sample comprised 604 individuals, aged between 15 and 18 years old. For data collection we resorted to the Questionário de Vinculação ao Pai e à Mãe (QVPM), Social Skills Questionnaire and Questionário de Ideação Suicida. The results suggest a negative prediction of the quality of emotional bond to father and assertiveness in relation to suicidal ideation, as well as for the positive prediction of inhibiting mother's exploration of individuality to suicide ideation. The results were discussed based on attachment theory, assuming the relevance of affection figures in the way how adolescents develop social skills, and are more able of overcome the difficulties, preventing suicidal ideation.
