N2  - The authors present an hypothesis regarding the patterns of stress and strain relief in the bone-muscle-tendon complex considered as a variable-geometry system. The analysis is done by measuring the in vivo changes of the leg diameter consequent to the quadriceps contraction against increasing and known resistance. The results are critically discussed and finally considered qualitatively significant.<p />
