We performed experiments with a test driver in order to analyze drivers' brake initiation timing in normal safety driving. We concluded that drivers' braking timing can be characterized well in phase plane of the Gap(D) between two cars and the proposed index (KdB_C) that is modified version of the index (KdB) by adding the preceding vehicle's velocity.
