TY - JOUR PY - 2013// TI - Analysis and modeling of sudden crossing behavior of pedestrian in urban narrow road based on real world driving data JO - Transactions of Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan A1 - Hayashi, Ryuzo A1 - Aoyagi, Soichiro A1 - Takanashi, Hiroyuki A1 - Nagai, Masao SP - 579 EP - 585 VL - 44 IS - 2 N2 - This study focuses on sudden crossing behaviors of pedestrians in urban narrow roads, which is one of the most unsafe behaviors in the viewpoint of traffic safety, setting its final goal to develop an active safety technology to prevent pedestrian accidents. In this paper, the sudden crossing behaviors of pedestrians in narrow roads are first extracted from real world near-miss incident database and then analyzed quantitatively. Next, a mathematical model expressing sudden crossing behavior is proposed based on the analysis results and its validity is examined. The results of the examination indicate that the proposed model is useful.
