TY - JOUR PY - 2013// TI - The effect of seatbelt use in frontal/side/rear collisions JO - Transactions of Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan A1 - Shinohara, Kazuaki A1 - Hashimoto, Katsuhiko A1 - Saito, Itaru A1 - Ono, Yuko A1 - Ito, Fumihito A1 - Okada, Megumi A1 - Ishida, Tokiya A1 - Yokoyama, Hideyuki A1 - Kumada, Yoshibumi A1 - Matsumoto, Akinori SP - 1263 EP - 1267 VL - 44 IS - 5 N2 - We investigated the difference of severity between belted and unbelted patients in several types of collisions in our emergency room. In frontal collision, mortality and the severity of whole body were significantly higher in unbelted than in belted. In near-side collision, mortality and the severity of head/neck, face were significantly higher in unbelted than in belted. In far-side collision, mortality and the severity of head/neck, face, chest were significantly higher in unbelted than in belted. In rear end collision, the severity of chest was significantly higher in unbelted than in belted. Seatbelt use was effective in all types of collisions to prevent severe injury.
