TY - JOUR PY - 2014// TI - Analysis of elderly drivers' behavioral changes with driver assistance system at non-signalized intersections without right-of-way JO - Transactions of Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan A1 - Kubota, Fumiko A1 - Shiraki, Nobuyuki A1 - Higuchi, Kazunori A1 - Kurahashi, Tetsuo A1 - Miichi, Yoshiki A1 - Sasaki, Kazuya A1 - Kato, Hideki A1 - Ando, Ryosuke SP - 1141 EP - 1146 VL - 45 IS - 6 N2 - Populations of developed nations, including Japan, are aging rapidly. It is hoped that a driving assistance method will play a role in allowing elderly people to maintain active lives and improving the traffic environment and education on traffic safety. In this study, we evaluate a driving assistance method that provides audio and visual information in a field operational test. The sound and images are presented when drivers do not decelerate or decelerate insufficiently at non-signalized intersections without right-of-way. The evaluation of the method indicates the possibility of improving driving behavior at the intersections where accidents involving elderly drivers frequently occur.
