TY - JOUR PY - 2016// TI - Investigation of effect of peaks and durations in head angular acceleration curves on strains in brain JO - Transactions of Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan A1 - Atsumi, Noritoshi A1 - Nakahira, Yuko A1 - Iwamoto, Masami A1 - Hirabayashi, Satoko A1 - Tanaka, Eiichi SP - 1393 EP - 1398 VL - 47 IS - 6 N2 - Effects of shapes in angular acceleration curves during head rotational impact on cumulative strain damage measure (CSDM) and strain distribution were investigated to elucidate critical factors for better brain injury prediction by using a human head finite element (FE) model. A constitutive model of brain parenchyma taking account of strain rate dependency and characteristic features in unloading process was applied to the head FE model. The results suggested that not only the peak value of loaded angular velocity or angular acceleration but also the duration of impact could be a critical factor for brain injury prediction.
