TY - JOUR PY - 2006// TI - Peace Engineering JO - Journal of professional issues in engineering education and practice A1 - Vesilind, PA SP - 283 EP - 287 VL - 132 IS - 4 N2 - Peace Enginneering is emerging as a new field of engineering, where the engineers use their technical skills in a positive and proactive way to promote peace. The decision to practice peace engineering can be based on any number of considerations, religious to political, and it is most likely based on a realization that war is evil. The engineer in his professional practice, shall be committed to the health, safety, and welfare of the public. Engineers can choose to devote their careers to peace engineering intentionally and purposefully work toward the day when peace engineering makes military engineering obsolete. Engineers who are concerned about the end result of their work are beginning to question themselves about living up to their own code of ethics. Many engineers in modern times have been successful in applying their skills to assist the military, and many have devoted their professional careers to peace engineering.
