SP - 509 EP - 509 VL - 20 IS - 7 N2 - Violent content seems prevalent in mass media and popular culture; however, the effects of these representations of aggressive behaviour and violence in real life should not be underestimated. Violent scenes are getting ever more brutal and are sometimes displayed in minute detail. In particular, assault-related traumatic brain injury (TBI) is notably prevalent in many films and TV series, displaying typical injury patterns of severe TBI that are usually lethal in real life. Notwithstanding, in these fictional representations the victims often recover in a short time without many physical or psychological consequences.
