TY - JOUR PY - 1987// TI - 'Migration' of accident risk after remedial blackspot treatment JO - Traffic engineering and control A1 - Persaud, Bhagwant N. SP - 23 EP - 26 VL - 28 IS - 1 N2 - Over the years, a major concern among some traffic engineers and safety managers has been the question of whether an improvement in safety at a location where a measure is applied leads to a degradation in safety elsewhere. This paper reviews the issue in detail and presents some evidence which shows that for one measure at least - conversion of intersections from two-way to multiway stop control - accident risk migration may indeed exist. Some possible reasons for this phenomenon are advanced and empirically examined.
