TY - JOUR PY - 1989// TI - Effect of automatic red-light cameras on red-running JO - Traffic engineering and control A1 - Chin, Hoong Chor SP - 175 EP - 179 VL - 30 IS - 4 N2 - Vehicles running the red at signalized intersections contribute significantly to traffic accidents, particularly those related to right-angled collisions. In Singapore, automatic red-light surveillance cameras have been installed at a number of intersections to deter drivers from running the red. A before-and-after study was conducted to investigate the change in red-running violation rates following the installation of these red-light cameras. The results of the study show that generally the violation rates have been reduced, especially among heavier vehicles. A drop in violation rates has also been observed along approaches which are not under camera surveillance.
