Globalisation and the rapid industrialisation that has happened in many parts of the world have caused a major population shift towards urban areas, especially in many low-income and middle-income countries, creating megacities. These megacities often have very poor infrastructure and, although health-care services are likely to be concentrated in urban areas, there are challenges related to the health of these populations.
