N2 - This article summarizes current knowledge and consensus about depression and suicide among the indigenous young people of the United States. American Indians represent more than 500 tribes and also vary among settings-reservations, urban, suburban, and rural-but as a group, remain at high risk for suicide and possibly for depressive syndromes. Particular risk factors and correlates, as well as approaches to treatment, are discussed.
