N2  - This paper reflects on the difficulties of studying violence in contexts of high incidence, specifically from a Latin American perspective. First, it discusses how violence affects the quality of primary data generated in violent contexts, both for qualitative and quantitative research. Secondly, the methodological limitations of the official data on violence produced in these contexts are analyzed, discussing some alternatives. In addition to the methodological impact, the article includes considerations on ethical and safety aspects, both for researchers and for the populations studied.     En este trabajo se reflexiona sobre las dificultades de estudiar la violencia en contextos de alta incidencia, en específico desde una perspectiva de América Latina. En primer lugar, se discurre sobre cómo la violencia afecta la calidad de los datos primarios generados en contextos violentos, tanto para investigaciones cualitativas como cuantitativas. En segundo lugar se analizan las limitaciones metodológicas de los propios datos oficiales sobre violencia producida en estos contextos, discutiendo algunas alternativas. Además del impacto metodológico, el artículo incluye  consideraciones sobre aspectos éticos y de seguridad, tanto para los investigadores como para las poblaciones estudiadas.<p />  <p>Language: es</p>
