By 1989, 39 states and the District of Columbia participated in monthly random-digit-dialed telephone interviews of adults greater than or equal to 18 years of age.   A total of 66,867 interviews were conducted in 1989; state-specific sample sizes ranged from 1,171 to 3,415 (mean: 1,672). This report summarizes results of the 1989 survey and compares them with 1988 for risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease, motor-vehicle-related injury, and use of clinical preventive services.
