N2  - First, we attempt to critically identify gender issues of disempowerment, especially social perceptions of the status of women regarding marriage, sexual relationship and family formation. Second, the article deals with women's exploitation in different forms and arenas. Third, we will briefly taken an overview and critique the government's national policy on women's empowerment. We will also illustrate and look into major central government schemes for women in India.
