N2  - This review describes the various components of a trauma team, and emphasises its value as one of many parts of a trauma system. The evidence for the team is weak and based on expert opinion and experience. Nevertheless, the evidence that high quality trauma systems improve survival, and that a trauma team is a vital component of all such systems is compelling. There is no evidence that a particular component of the team is essential.
