TY - JOUR PY - 2017// TI - Rural civil society in a narco-violent Mexican frontier: some initial reflections JO - Acta sociologica (Mexico) A1 - López León, Artemisa SP - 57 EP - 80 VL - IS - 74 N2 - Why is the rural civil society bordering Tamaulipas not organized to combat the narcoviolence that has severely affected agricultural activities in the main sorghum-grain producing region in Mexico? To respond to this concern, we reflect on the concept of civil society, the characteristics of rural civil society in the region of study and three sociocultural features deeply rooted in the frontier: the associationism and individualism that are a constituent part of production agricultural and illegality that has been a fundamental element for the generalization of narcoviolence in the border region. The analysis is based on a qualitative methodological strategy, through in-depth interviews.
