TY - JOUR PY - 2015// TI - Accident-based safety management for existing road infrastructure: background and application in Switzerland JO - Zeitschrift für Verkehrssicherheit ZVS A1 - Schuwerk, G. A1 - Schueller, H. SP - 162 EP - 168 VL - 61 IS - 3 N2 - Starting from the framework of the federal action programme for safer roads (Via sicura) the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO) has provided several measures for improving the safety situation of the whole road network. In support of the implementation road authorities have been provided with road safety management procedures in the form of working documents and partly as tools. A crucial part of the safety practice can be executed in a formal and standardized way with the usage of these procedures. Under these conditions, the accident-based procedures like black spot and network safety management as well as single accident management will be developed and improved by experiences from pilot applications. The article discusses general considerations as well as the implementation.
