The Project has served both as an applied research laboratory and as a graduate and postgraduate training site in the fields of applied behavior analysis, human development, education, special education, behavioral pediatrics, behavioral applications to business and management, and psychology during its 25-year history. The Project, through its program of research, has addressed a myriad of social problems evident within the inner-city Northeast Kansas City, Kansas area community. These problems of poverty, often referred to as psychosocial retardation, have ranged broadly across the areas of education, health, language, and community psychology. Through the careers of the investigators who have studied and worked at the Project, it has been the impetus for the development and refinement of many important aspects of the field of applied behavior analysis. This paper traces the beginnings of this Project, its history, mission, and current organization.
