N2  - Human trafficking is a major social problem that requires well-informed, empirically grounded policy and practice responses. The risks of human trafficking for women and the consequential psychological, emotional, and physical effects demonstrate the need for social work involvement, especially in the researched areas on violence and cultural competency. This article presents the similarities in the dynamics of intimate partner abuse and human trafficking and suggests that domestic organizations serving victims of domestic violence and sexual assault are the appropriate community agencies to provide services to and research on human trafficking victims. This article also discusses culturally competent practices and the development of a broad community response to address the issues related to human trafficking including training needs and research methodology needs and strategies.
